Meet the challenge. Solving maths word problems requires students to infer details and extract facts rather than follow through the computation. The problems in this series invite them to apply mathematical strategies learnt in class. As well as sharpening their basic maths skills, they heighten children’s awareness of how we regularly encounter and solve such problems in the real world. They can also provide opportunities for building vital skills in higher-order thinking, critical problem-solving, and reasoning.
