Young children benefit from reflective educators who plan ahead on the basis of knowing their children, their current interests and capabilities, and also what they are keen to puzzle out and learn for themselves. Each title in this series of Learning Opportunities in the Early Years offers a specific focus for children's learning, with activities for you to fine-tune for young children you know well.
These educator-initiated activities happen within a day or session when children have plenty of time for initiating and organising their own play. Your focus for the activities is short term. Plan ahead just enough so that everything is poised to go.

Bridie Raban

Bridie Raban was the Foundation Mooroolbeek Professor of Early Childhood Studies at the University of Melbourne. She is currently an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education and in 2021, she was awarded an Honorary University Fellowship by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Her past research has focused on language and literacy development, teacher change and development, curriculum and assessment for the early childhood years and quality provision. She was the first Professor of Early Childhood Education in Victoria and the second in Australia, and before this she was Professor of Primary Education (Early Years) at the University of Warwick and President of the UK Reading Association.

 

 

Jennie Lindon

Jennie Lindon is well known as an early years consultant and author. She has been a prolific writer, offering a welcome blend of knowledge of child development with a practical understanding of the role of early years educators.
